How to get rid of a mattress in Denver and the Front Range
Compare mattress recycling, retailer take-back, city collection and private removal, with direct links to Colorado recycling providers.
A mattress is bulky even when it is the only item you need gone. The most useful comparison is not just the fee: it is whether the option accepts your mattress and gets it from its current room to the right destination.
Ask about removal before your new mattress arrives
If you are replacing a mattress, ask the seller whether removal is available with the delivery. Confirm the charge, condition rules and whether a box spring or adjustable base is included. Keep the removal confirmation with your delivery details.
If delivery and removal are separate, allow space and time for both. Do not assume the delivery driver can accept an old mattress just because the truck has room. The service needs to be agreed before arrival.
Check Colorado mattress recycling options
Spring Back Colorado offers mattress and box-spring recycling, with drop-off and scheduled pickup options. Its listed facility is at 4975 Pontiac Street in Commerce City. Check current fees, service coverage and acceptance requirements directly before you load or book.
Eco-Cycle’s CHaRM lists mattresses, box springs and foam toppers among accepted materials, with facility and item fees. Its mattress rules exclude moldy or bedbug-infested items. Review the current instructions before making a trip; different facilities can apply different conditions.

Look up the collection service for your address
A municipal or contracted bulky-item service may be another option. Check that provider’s current mattress rules, quantity limits and collection date. For an apartment, ask management which collection arrangement applies before leaving anything near a dumpster.
Curbside collection and bedroom removal are different jobs. If you cannot safely carry the mattress to the approved collection point, choose a service that reviews the inside carry. Do not block a sidewalk or shared exit while waiting.
Count every part of the bed
“One bed” could mean one mattress, a split foundation, a metal frame, a headboard and a powered adjustable base. List each piece and its size so the provider can review the load and lifting. Mention whether it is already disassembled.
Photograph the room, stairs and the route out. Mention unusual weight, tight landings or an elevator reservation. Disclose moisture, contamination or a suspected pest issue before booking so the provider can decide whether it can accept the item and give appropriate handling instructions.

Compare a private pickup on the full scope
Private removal can combine a mattress with other approved household items and review an inside carry. Ask whether the complete quote includes the lifting, hauling and disposal you need. If recycling is a requirement, agree on the destination plan first; do not assume it from the word “removal.”
