Denver large-item pickup: which option fits your cleanout?
Compare Denver’s city large-item collection, donation, self-hauling and private junk removal before moving furniture to the curb.

A sofa that needs to go this week presents a different problem from one you can keep in the garage until the next collection. Before paying for hauling—or carrying anything outside—work through the date, the item and the access.
Check the city schedule for your address
Denver’s published collection-service overview lists large-item pickup every nine weeks. Use the city’s address-based schedule to find your collection date, then check the current large-item rules for accepted materials, quantity and placement.
A Denver mailing address alone is not a pickup confirmation. If you live in an apartment or a property with a private trash contract, ask the property manager which collection service covers bulky items. Do not assume the neighborhood’s residential collection applies to your building.
Choose by deadline, condition and who will lift
Make a short inventory before choosing a route. A usable dining table, a worn mattress and leftover renovation material may need three different destinations. Compare the complete job, including getting each item out of the home.

Plan the path before moving the item
For a basement sofa, photograph the stairs, turns and doorways as well as the sofa. For a condo, find out whether the building requires an elevator reservation or has a designated loading entrance. Include garage access and alley restrictions in your plan.
Leave heavy or awkward items where they are until the removal plan is agreed. A quote based on a curbside photo does not describe the same work as carrying an item down two flights of stairs. Clear access information helps a provider decide what equipment and extra help the job needs.
- Count separate pieces: a sectional, its ottoman and a sleeper mechanism can change the work.
- Photograph everything included in the pickup, not just the largest item.
- Separate items staying at the property and label them clearly.
- Keep exits and shared walking routes clear while you organize.
Work backward from the day the space must be empty
Write down the actual handover date, then allow time for an item to be declined by a donation organization or for a collection date not to fit. If a mattress delivery is involved, ask the retailer about removal before the delivery is scheduled. Confirm whether that service covers your old mattress, box spring and bed frame separately.
For a private pickup, distinguish a request from an appointment. Peak Elevation reviews the item list, address, access and timing, agrees on the complete quote, and sends a Square invoice. The pickup window is confirmed after full payment. A preferred date in the request is useful planning information, but it does not reserve a slot.
Send enough detail to compare complete quotes
Ask what is included in loading, hauling and disposal, what could change the total, and whether the price covers the exact items and access you described. If a destination or donation outcome matters to you, ask about it before agreeing to the job; do not assume every usable item will be accepted somewhere.
There is no need to pay for a full cleanout when your eligible item can wait for the city route. Equally, a municipal pickup does not solve an inside carry or an urgent apartment turnover by itself. The best fit is the option that actually completes your particular job.
