A Denver apartment move-out checklist for bulky items
Plan furniture removal around key return, elevator reservations, loading access and donation deadlines with a practical move-out checklist.

For an apartment cleanout, the elevator window can matter as much as the truck. Put the building’s rules, your item list and the actual move-out deadline in one plan before booking a pickup.
Start with the building and the handover date
Ask management where a pickup vehicle may load, which entrance to use and whether a service elevator needs a reservation. Confirm any vendor requirements before selecting a provider. A building’s normal trash area may not accept furniture or mattresses.
Write down when you must return keys and when access to the unit ends. Give a removal provider the deadline as well as your preferred date. Leave room for cleaning after the bulky items go; a cleanout and a cleaning appointment are separate parts of the move.
- Unit and floor, elevator access and reservation window.
- Loading location, vehicle restrictions, gates and entry instructions.
- Building contact and any vendor documentation requirements.
- Key-return deadline and the person who can provide access.
Create four clearly separated groups
Mark items as moving, being donated, being removed or still undecided. Do this room by room so a dresser you intend to keep does not end up in the pickup photos. Keep personal papers, medication, keys, valuables and everyday essentials out of the removal area.
Photograph the complete removal group and count large pieces separately. Open furniture that needs emptying, check drawers and shelves, then close them for the access photos. If the load changes, send a new inventory before the pickup scope is finalized.
Set an earlier deadline for donation decisions
If you want to donate a table or sofa, send condition photos early and ask for acceptance and a pickup date. Do not rely on an unconfirmed donation request to clear the unit before handover. Decide when you will switch to another option if the organization cannot accept or schedule it.
Confirm who carries donated furniture from the unit. A service that collects only from a garage or outside does not solve an upper-floor carry by itself. Tell the organization about stairs, an elevator and any building access limits before booking.
Use a timeline with room for changes
These are planning targets, not promised booking lead times. Start earlier for a large load, a strict building window or a busy moving period. Ask each provider about actual availability.
| When | What to settle |
|---|---|
| As soon as the move is planned | Key-return date, building access and what will stay or go. |
| Before choosing a pickup date | Donation decisions, the removal inventory and complete quotes. |
| When the appointment is confirmed | Access contact, loading area, elevator window and payment terms. |
| Before the pickup | Final item list, cleared walking route and separated belongings. |
| Before returning keys | Check rooms and storage areas, then complete your building’s handover process. |
Confirm the pickup before building your day around it
Share the complete item list, photos, address, floor and building requirements in your request. If stairs or the loading location change, flag that before arrival rather than expecting the same plan to work.
At Peak Elevation, you first approve the reviewed quote and pay the full Square invoice; we then confirm the pickup window. Keep that confirmation with your elevator reservation and move-out notes. A submitted request alone does not reserve time.
